Microsoft Updates Copilot With Autopilot Agent
Microsoft is overhauling its Copilot ecosystem by introducing a proactive assistant called Autopilot, alongside a new coding interface and usage-based billing structures, according to a report by The Decoder. The updated application interface is divided into three distinct sections: Home, Code, and Autopilot.
Formerly known as Scout, the Autopilot agent operates as an always-on assistant for business environments. Each instance functions within its own dedicated cloud workspace and identity, enabling it to monitor communication channels, manage recurring tasks, and coordinate workflows independently while users are offline. According to Microsoft, the system integrates organizational data governance and permissions.
The platform’s new Code section utilizes natural language processing to allow non-technical users to build applications, dashboards, and automations within a secure environment. Meanwhile, the Home section integrates standard chat capabilities with collaboration tools, featuring an upcoming dashboard designed to aggregate emails, calendar items, and messages.
In a shift from traditional flat-rate pricing, Microsoft is moving toward usage-based billing for advanced features like Autopilot and Code. Standard licenses will continue to cover basic chat and Office application integrations. The updated system also introduces an auto-router to select optimal models based on specific task requirements, with support planned for frontier models from external providers alongside Microsoft internal systems. Home and Code features are rolling out through the company’s Frontier program, while Autopilot is scheduled for private preview.
