Anthropic Secures $45 Billion Compute Deal
Artificial intelligence developer Anthropic has secured a compute deal valued at approximately 45 billion dollars with British cloud startup Nscale, according to a report by Bloomberg cited by The Decoder. Under the six-year agreement, the maker of the Claude AI assistant will rent processing capacity from a data center located in West Virginia.
Beginning late next year, Anthropic is slated to utilize 460 megawatts of Nvidia’s upcoming Vera Rubin chip generation at the facility. The infrastructure commitment comes as Anthropic prepares for an initial public offering planned for this fall. The company has moved quickly to secure necessary compute through various partnerships, including agreements with Amazon and SpaceX, alongside a commitment to lease Google artificial intelligence chips exceeding 150 billion dollars, and early discussions with Meta.
The agreement also supports Nscale as the cloud startup prepares for its own public offering. Nscale previously raised two billion dollars in March at a valuation of 14.6 billion dollars in a funding round led by Norwegian energy firm Aker. The company’s planned 1.35-gigawatt data center in Mason County carries an estimated cost of 69 billion dollars, though the development has encountered local opposition from residents in the area.
