Ethereum Faces Reversal Risk After Historic Q3 Rally

Ethereum has entered October facing a mix of bullish momentum and rising market caution following a third quarter rally that exceeded 70% in returns. According to a report by AMBCrypto, this performance marks a historic period for the asset, yet current indicators point toward a potential trend reversal as the fourth quarter begins.

Data from Santiment indicates a notable decline in social sentiment, with the ratio dropping to 0.89 bullish comments for every bearish comment across major social media platforms. This reading represents the lowest sentiment ratio recorded since early June. While some market analysts view widespread pessimism as a contrarian setup that often precedes a price rebound, other on-chain metrics suggest more concrete downward pressures.

Trading activity on major exchanges reflects a shift toward defensive positioning. Binance data shows the weekly Taker Buy/Sell Ratio slipped to 0.95, marking a four-month low and signaling that sell orders are outpacing buys. Additional caution has entered the market following a transfer of 133,298 Ethereum, valued at over $356 million, to a new wallet by co-founder Joseph Lubin.

Furthermore, network data reveals that Ethereum’s validator exit queue has grown to 773,447 ETH, reaching its highest level since the beginning of 2026. This metric shows a substantial volume of coins waiting to leave the staking contract and potentially enter circulation. At the same time, spot Ethereum exchange-traded funds recorded a single day net outflow of 5,171 ETH.

These combined developments suggest that current market hesitation extends beyond social media discussions into active on-chain positioning. Analysts note that if these bearish trends persist, October could mark a significant turning point where the asset cools off following its substantial third quarter gains.
