BlackRock Moves $62M in Bitcoin and Ethereum

Asset manager BlackRock has executed a repositioning of its cryptocurrency holdings by moving $62 million in Bitcoin and Ethereum through Coinbase Prime, according to a report by AMBCrypto. The transfers involved approximately 656.71 Bitcoin valued at $49.79 million and 5,150 Ethereum worth roughly $12.28 million. The majority of the Bitcoin moved through two separate transactions of 300 coins each, accompanied by a smaller transfer of 56.71 coins.

AMBCrypto notes that while the recent transactions represent a very minor percentage of BlackRock’s overall holdings, the wallet activity arrives at a time of changing institutional demand. BlackRock’s tracked portfolio currently holds roughly 787,349 Bitcoin valued at $60.15 billion, alongside 3.556 million Ethereum worth $8.68 billion. Furthermore, its IBIT and ETHA exchange traded funds continue to command significant market shares, representing roughly 4% of Bitcoin’s circulating supply and 3% of Ethereum’s circulating supply.

The transfers coincide with a period of negative ETF flows following stronger demand in August. Recent weekly data highlighted outflows for both assets, driven in part by waning investor sentiment and legislative developments in the United States Senate regarding the CLARITY Act. While the exact purpose behind the latest wallet movements remains unclear regarding whether the funds support short term ETF operations or longer term custody, subsequent transactions are expected to provide clearer insight into how BlackRock intends to utilize the capital.
